Transylvania University gives their students a high caliber education by taking a one-on-one approach. Attending Transylvania University means that you are exposed to caring professors, small class sizes, and an incredibly supportive community of students. Additionally, you are exposed to some excellent nearby restaurants that won’t break your budget. As a student, going out to eat can sometimes be unaffordable. However, there are plenty of budget-friendly restaurants near Transylvania University that will let you treat yourself on occasion.

American Traditional: Merrick Inn

The Merrick Inn is a favorite amongst Lexington locals and students alike. It is the ideal place to take a date for an affordable fine dining experience. Everything at Merrick Inn is homemade from the dessert to the fresh vegetable dishes. Try their pecan-crusted pork tenderloin or walleye pike for a delicious, wholesome meal. You can choose to sit on the patio or dine next to one of the three large fireplaces.

Home-style: Ramsey’s Diner

Ramsey’s Diner opened its doors in 1989 and has since expanded to several locations in the Lexington area. If you are in the mood for some home-style country cooking and button-popping breakfast, Ramsey’s will deliver. The southern food featured at this eatery is finger licking good. Try their chicken and dumplings, pork chops, or catfish for some traditional fare. You’ll most definitely take some to go, as Ramsey’s is infamous for their huge portions.

If you have not eaten at this venue before, they offer free samples to find a dish that you’ll love.
