University of Kentucky Libraries
There’s nothing like a library for a silent, secluded space. In any of the University of Kentucky libraries, you’ll get help finding the resources you need. From the Law Library to the Medical Center Library, or from the Fine Arts library to the Engineering Library, your subjects will be covered. Libraries also offer audio visual services, computers, and media rooms.
The Writing Center
One of the best study spots near the University of Kentucky is the Robert E. Hemenway Writing Center. Students get free help with all of their papers as well as any speaking projects or multimedia projects in any subject area. The help is provided face-to-face, online, and in groups. This is a great boon for students, so they never turn in a poorly written paper again. Operating hours are Monday – Thursday, 9AM – 9PM, and Friday 9AM – 3PM. On Sunday, online tutoring is available through the library from 7PM – 10PM.
The University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment created a great outdoor study spot for you. The Arboretum State Botanical Garden of Kentucky consists of 100 acres of colorful plants, trees, and flowers. There are several different gardens that are designed to appeal to sight or smell. Students find that just spending some time in the gardens relaxes and soothes their worries. This is great when you need to concentrate on a subject or remember information. The grounds are open from dawn until dusk, except when there is a home football game. You can reach the garden by walking through the woods or by driving to 500 Alumni Drive to reach the visitor center.
Common Grounds Coffee House & Café
It’s always nice to have a relaxing place to study or meet study groups where you can get good coffee and food. Common Grounds Coffee House & Café is one such place. It bakes its own muffins, scones, and bagels, and offers a wide selection of sandwiches, wraps, soup, salads, and more. Its specialty is its fresh-roasted coffee and espresso. It has three locations in Lexington, starting with the original at 343 East High Street, which is open Monday – Friday, 7AM – 12AM and Saturday and Sunday 8AM – 12AM. The UK campus location is at the corner of Avenue of Champions & Lexington Avenue and is open Monday – Friday, from 7AM – 12AM, and Sunday, from 4PM – 12AM. It is closed Saturday.
